Meet Dana Ripley

Dana Ripley is the founder, principal and Chief Communications Officer of 12A Consulting.

Dana has more than 25 years of hands-on communications, public affairs and government relations experience in the banking, payments, retirement, asset management and life insurance industries, as well as other industries. He has worked for FORTUNE 500 companies for the majority of his career and has extensive experience helping companies navigate complex and critical communication and business challenges.

Dana’s career started in the non-profit sector, working for The Salvation Army as Director of Public Relations. This experience established the bedrock for his humanity- and ethics-based communications philosophy. It set the stage for everything that was to follow in Corporate America.

Prior to starting 12A Consulting, he served as Chief Communications Officer for Minneapolis-based U.S. Bank, the fifth largest commercial bank in the United States, and New York City-based Voya Financial, one of the largest retirement and asset management companies in the United States.

Under his leadership, U.S. Bank was named a World’s Most Ethical Company by the internationally renowned Ethisphere Institute for five consecutive years, the largest bank to ever make this prestigious list. In addition, U.S. Bank routinely achieved the highest reputation scores from the Reputation Institute among all stakeholders, including the best reputation with the media among all large banks.

While at Voya Financial, he was responsible for the internal and external communications strategies for Voya’s 2013 initial public offering, which was one of the most successful IPOs that year, and the company’s re-branding from ING U.S. to Voya Financial.

Dana has extensive experience creating, leading and executing on comprehensive, multi-stakeholder, public-company communications, government relations and public affairs strategies. In addition, he has considerable experience working directly with the Chief Executive Officers and other C-suite executives.

Dana received his Masters in Business Communication from the University of St. Thomas and his Bachelors in Media Communication from Bethel University. Originally from Boston, Massachusetts, he currently resides in Minnetonka, Minnesota with his wife Ked.

He is a former marathon runner who now simply prefers gentle jogging, long walks with Ked and his dog, Moose, and fires in the fireplace. Dana has a passion for the country of Ethiopia and the social, justice and health issues there. He has been to the country on multiple occasions and will always find ways to contribute to the well-being of the Ethiopian people.
